Ohara Koson was a leading Japanese painter and graphic artist active at the turn of the 19th century. In his work, he continued the traditional approach to art and was guided by the principles of the Ukiyo-e trend in the Edo period.
He designed a unique series of prints depicting flowers and birds (kacho-e) belonging to the Shin-hang artistic movement, which revived traditional elements of Japanese painting and woodcutting in the first half of the 20th century and proclaimed the artist's independent approach to each stage of his art.
